Game and Hotshots

Published in the 1970s by Top Sellers Ltd, Game and Hotshots were part of the vibrant and often controversial era of British softcore magazines. Produced by the same company known for importing Marvel and DC comics, these titles offered full‑colour glamour photography, pin‑up style layouts, short fiction, humour, and lifestyle features. Though mild by today’s standards, both magazines pushed the boundaries of what could appear on UK newsstands at the time.
Their history is closely tied to the “pulp and porn wars” of 1970s London, where Scotland Yard obscenity raids led to thousands of copies being seized under the Obscene Publications Act. As legal pressure increased, Top Sellers shifted these adults‑only titles to a dedicated imprint, G.B.D. Ltd., in 1976. Today, Game and Hotshots remain collectable snapshots of a turbulent and influential period in British adult‑publishing history.
Hotshots
After a successful launch in the American market, Game introduced a stronger, more explicit photo section overseas—still tasteful, but beyond what UK censorship then allowed. As British magazines gradually became more open, these images were finally brought to the UK, presented as some of the finest photographic erotica available.
Hotshots expanded on this by adding top‑tier erotic art, fashion features, and letters considered too risqué for Game, creating a magazine drawn from both American and European sources but tailored specifically for British tastes.
