Rain and Rainwear Review

Rain and Rainwear Review were two subscriber-only magazines published between 1968 and 1972.
Rain was launched by Ray and Veda Campbell of Bedford, England, at the end of 1968. Exactly how many issues were produced remains unclear, but I believe that fewer than ten were published. Rainwear Review followed at the end of 1969 and, while clearly inspired by *Rain*, developed its own identity over an 11-issue run that lasted until 1972.
Both publications were closely associated with the rubber clothing manufacturers Vedamac and Trudimac, and much of their content showcased the companies’ latest designs. While both magazines are rich in photographic content, Rain has a stronger sense of community. Alongside the fashion features, it included articles, news, and readers’ letters, providing a fascinating insight into what was then a small and largely hidden enthusiast community.
Print runs for both publications were extremely limited, generally believed to have been fewer than 500 copies per issue. Distributed directly to subscribers around the world, relatively few copies have survived, making them both difficult to find and highly collectable today.
I have written a separate article on this site that explores the history of both magazines in greater detail for anyone interested in learning more. As information on these publications remains scarce, I would be very grateful to hear from anyone who can add to the historical record or help fill in some of the gaps.
