Line-Up

Line-Up and Jeffrey were niche British magazines produced during a period of significant social change following the partial decriminalisation of homosexuality in England and Wales in 1967. Published in the early 1970s, the magazines combined photography, lifestyle features, personal advertisements, and cultural commentary aimed primarily at a gay male readership. At a time when LGBTQ+ representation in mainstream media was extremely limited, publications such as Jeffrey and Line-Up helped provide visibility, community connections, and alternative viewpoints, while also attracting criticism from more conservative sectors of society. Surviving copies are now regarded as rare historical artefacts that document the evolution of gay publishing and social attitudes in Britain.
